"They're doing some early construction work," economic development director Bradley Ford said.
The developer of the wholesale store recently requested an amendment for their commercial site plan for the addition of signs that will be visible from Interstate 35W.
It has already received all necessary permits, Ford said.
The 136,000 square-foot store will be located just south of Honda of Burleson along I-35W.
According to Ford, Sam's Club typically hires 150-200 employees for its stores.
The new addition will bring dollars to the city and options for residents, Ford said.
"It brings another service and store that people are currently having to shop outside the city for," he said. "It'll be a big help for the city's finances.
"It also helps with the recruitment of other businesses. When an established company comes to Burleson we're pretty excited about it."
As part of Sam's Club's agreement to build in Burleson, City Council approved in March a construction project that would give residents access to the store by extending Stone Road to Renfro Street on the east side of I-35W.
That project should be completed in early 2014.
