Elks set to celebrate tonight

King, queen to be unveiled in pregame Friday

Students predicted with signage Monday that Burleson would sink the Pirates during the 65th annual football homecoming game.

Homecoming week opened Monday with a homecoming parade from Hughes Middle School to Burleson High School.

Burleson meets Granbury in a District 9-5A opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Burleson ISD Stadium. It marks the 23rd all-time meeting between Burleson and Granbury, and a win would allow Burleson to even the series at 12-12-0. Burleson has won meetings in the prior two seasons by an average margin of 39.0 points. Burleson is 2-0 against Granbury under Coach Gary McElroy.

Before opening the District 9-5A schedule, Burleson will crown a new homecoming king and queen at 7 p.m. The senior candidates for king are Isaac Bettinger, Blake Dorchester and Alex Sexton. The senior candidates for queen are Christa Markum, Bri Obregon and Alex O'Reilly.

A homecoming pep rally open to the community is at 3:45 p.m. Friday in the BHS Arena.
