The Johnson County Art Guild had its monthly meeting on Thursday Nov. 3 at the Cleburne Cultural Center on Granbury Street. The group selected the winners of the monthly contest from work submitted by the membership.
The winners were: First Place - Estelle Stepherson 16x20 oil painting of a work titled "French Barn". Her painting will be displayed during the month at the Plaza Theater in the Foyer area. Second Place - Marcella Donovan whose painting was a 9x12 oil titled "The Girls" which will be shown at the Leyland Museum. Third Place - went to Carol Mulligan for an 11x14 painting titled "Snow Tiger" which will be displayed at the Sleepy Reed Art Studio. Honorable Mention was a 12x12 painting in Acrylic which had the title "Surprise" and will be shown in the Gift Shop of the Cleburne Cultural Center.
Take a side trip to the above showings and see the great paintings. The Gift Shop located on the second floor of the building complex is a perfect spot for shopping for those Christmas gifts you need about this time of the year.
The demonstration for the meeting was provided by Lunda Conley, former teacher in the Art Departments of several local schools but now spends full time in producing chalk and pastels landscapes. She was able to finish a landscape featuring a very nice stream and trees with a technique the worked from dark images to light on a paper finish attached to a flat board. Using a variety of chalk shape colors, she finished with a complete painting in the hour and a half section of the meeting allocated to her.
