Two ICE detainees escape but not for long
Two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees escaped from the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado but they weren’t on the lamb for too long.
The pair, according to a press release from ICE, scaled the fence in the dentention center’s recreation yard July 31.
Prairieland Dentention Center staff were notified of the escape at about 2:15 p.m.
At that point a manhunt for the pair ensued that involved numerous local and non-local agencies.
Constables from three of the four precincts in Johnson County and officers from the Alvarado Police Department, officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety and Fugitive Operations Team members from ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations participated in the search.
“They were out looking for them,” Johnson County Precinct 1 Constable Mike White said.
One of the escapees was apprehended at 4 p.m. The remaining escapee was arrested around 10:10 a.m. Aug. 1.
According to the email neither of the men who escaped have convictions for violent crimes.
