Vinsen Faris to head San Antonio's Meals program
Vinsen Faris has announced his intention to accept a position as chief executive officer of Christian Senior Services of San Antonio.
He leaves Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties after nearly three full decades of service. Faris' tenure with Meals-on-Wheels will conclude Aug. 31.
“This generous and caring community will always have a most special place in my heart," Faris said.
Under his leadership, Meals-on-Wheels grew from a small program, serving a handful of people, to a multi-county organization providing daily meals and contact to more than 700 senior and disabled residents. Faris became the organization's executive director in 1988.
"Vinsen has been an exceptional executive director and leader of Meals-on-Wheels, not only locally, but nationally as well," said Paula Baucum, chair of Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties' board of directors. "His dedication to serving our elderly and disabled residents is unmatched. We are truly sad to see him go, but know he is going to do great things in San Antonio.”
An interim executive director will be named shortly, Baucum said, while a search is completed for Faris' successor.
His concept of “people helping people” led to thousands in two counties supporting the organization financially and through volunteer service.
He became recognized locally and throughout the state and nation as an advocate for senior issues, especially senior hunger. Faris has spoken before the Texas Legislature and testified to U.S. Congress on senior issues. He's been invited to the White House on multiple occasions to attend briefings on senior hunger issues.
Faris is a past chairman of Meals on Wheels America.
“I will most certainly miss working with the talented and dedicated staff, board, donors, supporters and volunteers," Faris said. "They are my second family. I’m proud of the many things we accomplished together, and I know I’m leaving this organization in good hands."
