What makes a truly great student? Hard work, dedication and passion are some traits held by valedictorians and salutatorians, but as the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. The Star asked each val and sal who inspired and pushed them the most in school and what they plan to study in college.

What was your biggest high school accomplishment, aside from being val or sal?
Competing at Drumline World Championships in Dayton Ohio
Who was your biggest inspiration while in high school?
My mom and dad
What are your college and career plans?
I plan to go to college at the University of Texas at Austin and major in Aerospace Engineering.
What do you like to do when you aren’t at school?
When I’m not in school I like to play Racquetball, try new foods, and hang out with friends!

Publicist for the National Honor Society, Community 4H Officer, Student Council Member, Volleyball 2014-2015, and Drill Team 2015-2017
What was your favorite subject in school? Math - Algebra and PreCal specifically
Who was your favorite teacher?
Profesora Johnson and Mr. Seth Reeves
What was your biggest high school accomplishment, aside from being val or sal?
My biggest accomplishment was learning how to balance school work, employment, and a social life. Although I may have sacrificed sleep, it was all worth it.
Who was your biggest inspiration while in high school?
My mother; she was valedictorian also. She is one of the most kind hearted people I’ve ever met and has always been supportive. She’s taught me to be independent and never give up.
What are your college and career plans?
After obtaining my degree in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Spanish, I would like to travel to impoverished Spanish speaking countries to help improve their medical equipment and teach them how to utilize what resources they do have.
What do you like to do when you aren’t at school?
When I’m not in school, I like to spend time with my friends and family. I also enjoy traveling to new places to try and experience new things.

Which inspirational quote from your graduation speech do you want us to share?
All of the adults in our lives did not have someone making their every decision for them, they made themselves who they are through their own actions. We have to look to them and realize that if they can do it, so can we.

Robotics, UIL Science, and Cross Country

Chemistry

Ms. Jacques(Calculus) and Mrs. Pyles(Chemistry)

Going to regionals for UIL Science
Who was your biggest inspiration while in high school?
My mother
What are your college and career plans?
I plan on going to Texas A&M University and pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering in order to become a Chemical Engineer and probably end up working for a chemical plant.
What do you like to do when you aren’t at school?

Which inspirational quote from your graduation speech do you want us to share?
High school held us in check while we found our passions, but the future holds an infinite amount of opportunities to fully embrace those passions.

Theatre Productions and Thespian Club

Math

What was your biggest high school accomplishment, aside from being val or sal?
Never giving up on a class, even when I felt that the workload would crush me.

Ms. Jacques
What are your college and career plans?
I plan on going to A&M with an open mind about my future because I know that plans almost always change in college and I want to experience all my options before I make a final decision on my career path.
What do you like to do when you aren’t at school?
Most of my free time is dominated by theatre rehearsals but when I am not on stage, I am usually spending time with my family, whether it is game night, a bike ride, or even cooking dinner together.
