Athena Society gives checks to local charities
Members of the Athena Society of Burleson were on hand at First National Bank of Burleson Friday to present checks to deserving charities in the area.
Proceeds from the 2019 Athena Gala were presented to The WARM Place, the Cooper Max Foundation, Burleson Opportunity Fund and Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South.
Athena members at the ceremony were Cindy Aaron, Peggy Barnes, Patsy Dumas, Jill Fochesato, Lisa Keese, Ruth Moor, Rosie Perez, Nelda Stucks and Sharena Wilkins,
This is the 16th consecutive year the Athena’s have provided support for a variety of services to the greater Burleson community.
The WARM Place, for the last 30 years, has provided grief support for children ages 3 ½ to 18 and their families as well as young adults 19 - 25 who have experienced the death of a loved one.
The Cooper Max Foundation is committed to helping children under the age of 12 and their families cope with the realities of childhood cancer.
The donation to Huguley will benefits its new comprehensive cancer care program.
The Burleson Opportunity Fund is a scholarship program open to all high school graduates who live or attend school in Burleson
At close of the presentation there was a gentle reminder that the 2020 Athena Gala is accepting sponsors and underwriters now to help them continue their work for the Burleson community.
