BACK TO SCHOOL: Burleson Nissan and Burleson Honda offer free cars for perfect attendance in Burleson high schools.
BURLESON – Perfect attendance in high school school is, of course, its own reward. Everyone knows that.
But what if you could add a free car to that equation?
Well, now BISD students can, courtesy of Burleson Nissan and Burleson Honda. One sweet pair of wheels is a potential perk this year for two deserving Burleson ISD students – one from Centennial High School and one from Burleson High School.
“Every year, this car goes to a really, really driven young person,” Crain said. “This is the good story of a good kid whose family really needs it and worked hard to be part of it.”
Attendance has a direct affect on academic performance and this innovative effort is the brainchild of Burleson Nissan, Burleson Honda and General Manager Justin Crain, who have teamed up with “Strive to Drive Tx” to help educate students and parents on the importance of being in class.
The “Strive To Drive Tx” initiative has been in effect for well over half a decade, Crain said.
“Ten high school students with perfect attendance will be selected [through a drawing] at the end of the school year and we give will each of them a key to the car,” Crain explained. “Of those keys, only one will actually start the car and the student holding that key wins the car. It is our gift to them: No taxes and they get to keep it forever. It is our gift to them for their perfect attendance and for succeeding in school.”
In a previous interview, Burleson ISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson expressed extreme gratitude to continue partnership with Burleson Nissan.
“Attendance is a vital factor in student success, and while we work to keep lessons relevant, this program will further incentivize coming to class,” he said.
Research conducted at the Bureau of Educational Research in Illinois, shows that consistent school attendance is directly linked to positive behavior, increased participation in extracurricular activities, higher grades and higher overall educational outcomes.
Students must be enrolled for the entire six-week grading period to participate in the drawing for the 10 keys. Ways to earn tickets include:
• One ticket each 6 weeks for perfect attendance
• Five extra tickets per semester for perfect attendance (Fall & Spring)
• Ten extra tickets for no days missed all year
