BURLESON – A patriotic painted rock placed on every single engraved brick at Veteran's Memorial Park.
That is one heck of a task. An enormous Memorial Day tribute totaling over 1,800 rocks in four days.
Hundreds of Burleson residents participated in this effort.
For event organizer Tammie Rhoades of Burleson Rocks, the Texas Official public group, seeing this happen was like a dream come true.
"I was blown away," she said. "Burleson truly does ROCK!"
Rhoades said she is touched and completely in awe of how seamlessly residents came together and worked so hard to make a project of this magnitude happen.
"We have about 3,000 members in our group right now," Rhoades said. "On Saturday ... there was upward of 300 people there between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. It was completely and totally a group effort."
Family members with bricks at the memorial are urged to come claim their rocks.
The project was spearheaded by Terry Carlile, Rhoades explained.
"Thank you, Terry Carlile for this challenge and for what it meant to our group – what it will mean to the families of the men and women whose names are on those bricks," she said.
The gesture has been a big hit with area residents, BillyeSue Gray-Stephens in particular.
"I don't know who founded Burleson Rocks, but I would like to personally thank them," Gray-Stephens wrote on Facebook. "Such a beautiful tribute to the veterans and a wonderful showing of appreciation from our citizens. Thanks, and God Bless the USA!"
Facebook poster Dorothy Hill agreed.
"It was a wonderful thing to put the rocks at the veterans memorial," Hill wrote. "So good for the people that got involved and all the children know how to have pride in the veterans."
