Car crash results in fatalities
Winter break in Burleson ended in tragedy on Sunday, Jan. 7. Around 5:45 p.m. at the 23000 block of Renfro road, a family of four in a Honda passenger van stopped and were getting ready to turn left into Cana Baptist Church when they were struck by a 2013 Ford F-150 pick-up truck. A 36-year-old mother and her 7-year-old daughter died at the scene.
The driver of the Ford did not see the van stop, causing him to strike them from behind, sending them into the northbound lane.
A third driver in a 1999 Ford Ranger pick-up truck was driving north on Renfro and struck the van on the right side with the front of their vehicle.
There was another 3-year-old daughter in the van who was taken to Cook’s Children Hospital in Fort Worth and is in good condition. The father, who was driving the van, received critical injuries and was taken to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth.
The driver of the F-150 that struck the van initially received minor injuries and was treated at Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth before being released.
The third vehicle that struck the van when it traveled into the Northbound lane, had two people in the truck. The 53-year-old driver had minor injuries and was treated at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth. His 81-year-old mother was the passenger and received serious injuries. She was taken to Harris Hospital to get treated as well.
Cleburne Texas Highway Patrol investigated the accident and concluded the contributing factor in the crash was driver inattention and failure to control speed. Alcohol was not suspected and charges are still being investigated.
Pastor Kevin Jordan of Cana Baptist Church confirmed on social media that the family in the van were church-members and asked for prayers to all involved. He also said that the 3-year-old is doing physically well but the father remains in critical condition.
Further, he released this statement on their social media page- “Some have asked how to help the Quan family. Financial gifts are an easy way to help with final expenses and medical costs. If you choose to give, please know that any funds received in excess of the above mentioned expenses will be used at the discretion of Cana toward the future aid of the family.
