THE FAMOUS MICHELLES
It’s an innovative idea, to be sure.
Professional slumber parties. For a fee.
Delivering, setting up, and decorating an overnight event before it begins and then returning the following day to retrieve their gear.
Michelle McKinney – whose day job takes her to Burleson – and Michelle Cornish-Kennon decided to create “Me & My Tribe Sleepovers” relatively recently for just this purpose.
“We are both people who love to make others happy – and to give,” explained Michelle Cornish-Kennon.
In addition to the ladies both being named Michelle, they have been close friends for over 20 years.
Orchestrating fun and efficient sleepover and camping experiences for clientele seemed the natural thing to do for both of them.
Both are very passionate about what they do. Somewhere along the way they chose the nickname “The Famous Michelles” for themselves so that people could better remember their new business.
“We threw that out there,” Michelle Cornish-Kennon said with a laugh. “We figured if they could remember anything, it would be ‘The Famous Michelles.’ ”
And they do remember it. Very well, Michelle McKinney added with a smile.
Michelle McKinney, whose daughter Elizabeth is 24 (and married) and son Slade is 15, said she and her friend both have had many experiences with sleepovers.
“I’ve had up to 20 girls in my living room with sleeping bags all over the floor,” she said.
Cornish-Kennon’s children include Andrea, 34, and Colton, 24.
Over the years, the two have developed many different ways to enhance the sleepover experience.
And actually, the sleepover experience has appeal to adults as well as children, they said.
“We have had women going on 40 asking about a birthday party sleepover they wanted us to set up,” McKinney said. “That’s when we realize we had something.”
As part of their services, the Michelles provide handmade teepee tents with a fashionable design to their clients.
Each set includes teepee, mattress, sheet, blanket, bed tray and theme decor.
