Gas leak closes section of W Renfro Street Tuesday
A major street in Burleson was closed around 1 p.m. Tuesday after a contractor hit a four-inch gas line while installing a storm drain pipe.
Southbound traffic on W Renfro Street was being diverted at SW Wilshire Boulevard. A gas line was struck during sidewalk construction. Traffic is blocked from SW Thomas Street to SW Wilshire Boulevard.
Representatives from Atmos Energy arrived around 1:20 p.m. and were assessing the situation.
The Burleson Fire Department is on the scene monitoring the situation while Burleson Police officers are directing traffic.
Burleson Police Chief Billy Cordell, who was also on the scene, said repairs could take up to four hours.
According to a Facebook post by the Burleson Police Department no evacuations were required.
