    Burleson High School’s powerlifting teams were honored. The boys team finished 13th at the Texas High School Men’s Powerlifting Association Division 1 state championships. Team members are Ethan Haynes (second place in the 148-pound weight class), Cesar Ledesma (fifth, 114), Jacob Moss (eighth, 132), Erick Samayoa (10th, 114), Hunter Cunningham (20th, 198). The girls’ squad sent a record six competitors to the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Class 5A state championships. Competing for the Lady Elks were Jakiya Wade (sixth, 220), Kelsey Green (11th 148), Isabella Roberts (13th, 181), Natalie Marion (15th, 181), Makayla Moulton (15th, 114), and Maddie Brown (17th, 97).     A pair of Centennial High School powerlifters were acknowledged for their accomplishments at state. Lucia Creeden finished sixth in the 123-pound class at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Class 5A state championships.     Centennial’s wrestling program was recognized by the trustees. Students are recognized for their achievements at the UIL Class 5A State Championships. The boys squad finished 14th and the girls squad placed 66th. The Spartans had two wrestlers medal. In the 152-pound class, Hank Meyer finished second. Jaren Powell placed third in the 128-pound class. For the Lady Spartans, Aubrey Yauger finished third in the 128-pound weight class. Yauger is the first female wrestler from Centennial and the BISD to medal at state. Wesley Goleman competed at 106 pounds but didn’t place. The boys had a pair of state alternates in Joshua Meador (113 pounds) and Connor Hostetler (195). The girls had two state alternates in Bailee Burgess (110 pounds) and Kenna Fabela (138). School board trustees recognize students

The Burleson ISD school board trustees recognized the accomplishments of numerous students and staff at the board’s April 8 meeting.

Students from the Academy of Leadership and Technology at Mound along with student-athletes from  Burleson and Centennial High School’s were honored.
