Second accident Sunday results in fatality

A pair of accidents on or near the southbound side of Interstate 35W left traffic snarled for hours Sunday.

The second accident of the day resulted in a fatality and was a direct result of accident earlier in the day, according to Burleson Communications Director DeAnna Phillips.

The accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. near the 600 block of South Burleson Boulevard when a vehicle in the right lane was hit by another vehicle.

The vehicle that was struck ended up in the service road.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck from behind was killed. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth. The driver was treated and released according to Phillips.

The first accident on Sunday left a man in his 20’s, who was attempting to be a Good Samaritan, in the hospital.

Earlier Sunday, a man who had stopped assist another motorist who was having car trouble, was struck by a passing vehicle.

Burleson Public Safety responded to 2100 block southbound I-35W at 6:22 p.m. Sunday.

According to Phillips, the man was hit while placing cones out to block traffic. The victim was transported via CareFlite to Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth.
