Soccer playoffs open Thursday with doubleheaders
Thursday night will be a busy one for local high school soccer fans as both the girls and boys squads from Burleson and Centennial will be in action in playoff doubleheaders
Burleson’s Class 5A Division II bi-district playoff games will take place at Mansifeld’s R.L. Anderson Stadium. Centennial’s playoffs games will be play at Burleson ISD Stadium.
Burleson’s boys team which finished second in District 9-5A will take on Red Oak, the third seed from District 10-5A at 8 p.m. The Elks are making consecutive playoff appearances. Midlothian defeated Burleson, 2-0, last season in a bi-district match at the same site.
The Lady Elks will be making their first playoff appearance since 2017. Burleson, the fourth-place team from 9-5A, will be facing 10-5A district champion Mansfield Lake Ridge at 6 p.m.. The Lady Elks last playoff game was a 1-0 loss to Fort Worth Arlington Heights in a bi-district game.
The Spartans, the third-place team from 9-5A, will play Midlothian, the second-seed from 10-5A, at 6 p.m. The boys are making their first playoff appearance since 2013. That season, Centennial registered two wins before losing to Stephenville, 1-0, in a sectional playoff game.
Centennial’s girls, the third-place team from 9-5A, will take on Midlothian, the second-seed from 10-5A, at 8 p.m. The Lady Spartans, who have never missed the playoffs since starting varsity play, lost to Red Oak last season, 4-1 in a bi-district playoff game.
