Lady Spartans fall to Godley
GODLEY — Things started out well for Centennial’s volleyball team in a non-district match at Godley Tuesday night.
The Lady Spartans rallied for a 25-20 victory in the first game.
But they couldn’t keep up the momentum as they dropped the next three games, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21, to fall to the Lady Wildcats.
“We had a lot of people playing different roles tonight and I was very proud of the way they stepped up and played,” Centennial coach Julie Williams said. “We have to focus on keeping our energy and our effort up. If we can do that, it makes us a much better team.”
One of the bright spots for the Lady Spartans (5-9) was the play of senior middle blocker Madison Hutchins.
It was hard to tell at times that Hutchins hasn’t played in many varsity matches. The senior played for the Lady Spartans junior varsity last season.
“Maddie Hutchins was a beast for us at the net tonight,” Williams said. “She was definitely our wall at the net tonight.”
Hutchins had several big blocks for Centennial that resulted in points Tuesday night.
Four other players, seniors Kaytlin Moore and Hannah Walker and juniors Bella Russell and Haley Hock drew praise from Williams for their effort Tuesday night.
