Elks' Enis pleased with first outing

Burleson’s cross country squads opened the season Saturday competing at the Cowtown Challenge at The Buff in Haltom City.

The Lady Elks finished fifth overall with 122 points. Dallas Ursuline Academy took first place with 30 points. Weatherford was second (30 points) Azle finished third (55). Burleson’s boys placed seventh after tallying 191 points. Aledo finished first place with 49 points. Richland was second (82) and Keller Fossil Ridge was third (113).

“I thought the kids ran well considering how early in the season it is, plus the heat and first meet jitters,” Burleson cross country coach Curtis Enis said. “We got some work to do if we want to be regional qualifiers but all in all I was proud of both the girls and boys runners. They all competed well.”

The Lady Elks were led by junior Meadow Renfro who finished 15th in a time of 21:56.65.

Burleson’s next five runners finished within 51 seconds of each other. Sophomore Bryanne Barajas placed 29th in a time of 22:44.59. Junior Kassedi Zapata was 35th in a time of 23:24.95. Sophomore Emily Tebo finished 42nd in time of 23:40.80. Freshman Maggie Prewitt placed 50th in a time of 24:18.02 and junior Bridgett Montes was 52nd in a time of 24:35.98.

Junior Kelia Juarez finished 58th in a time of 25.05.41. Freshman Avery Wang was 59th in a time of 25:05.62. Haley Vasquez placed 61st in a time of 25:19.98 and freshman Ellie Kirkpatrick was 62nd in a time of 25:27.80.

Junior Elias Word was the Elks top runner finishing 13th in a time of 17:56.78. Junior Chris Smith placed 26th in a time of 18:21.86 and freshman Ace Garcia was 38th in a time of 18:56.30.

Sophomore Isaac Smith finished 70th in a time of 20:01.96. Adrian Reyes, a sophomore, was 78th in a time of 20:01.96. Sophomore Alex Adame finished 79th in a time of 20:14.66. Jacob Perez, a sophomore, was 80th in a time of 20:21.47, senior Andrew Cranford placed 83rd in a time of 20:25 and Yash Dalal, a freshman, was 86th in a time of 20:45.73.

Next up for Burleson is the Elk Run Friday at Chisenhall Park.
