Spartans top Saginaw Chisholm Trail
Things started slowly for Centennial’s boys soccer team Friday night but the Spartans were able to turn things around to claim a 3-0 win over Saginaw Chisholm Trail.
“I was disappointed with how we started,” Centennial coach Brian Boydstun said. “Chisholm Trail was not a bad team, they moved the ball well. We struggled to win the ball or even possess the ball in the first 10 minutes”
But then the Spartans settled into their game and took over in the final 70 minutes.
“Our fitness was better and we just took the game over after that first 10 minutes,” Boydstun said. “We created numerous opportunities to score. We just kept going at them and put three in the back of the net.”
Nick Scarpello scored twice and Chase Epps added a goal. Josh Emslie registered the shutout.
The Spartans lost to Aledo, 1-0, Wednesday. Centennial hosts Mansfield Summit Friday in its final non-district game. The Spartans open District 9-5A play Jan. 26 at home against Crowley.
“These next two games will be big for us,” Boydstun said. “Aledo and Summit are consistent playoff teams with good players.”
