Trevino breaks record at Mercyhurst North East

Former Burleson volleyball standout Justine Trevino, who is a sophomore libero at Mercyhurst North East University (Penn.), recently broke the career record in digs for the Saints on Oct. 12.

In the first game of the Saints match versus Jamestown Community College, Trevino recorded her 588th career dig, making her the all-time leader for the Saints volleyball program in digs.

“Justine reads the hitter very well, this is why she is so successful,” said Saints’ head volleyball coach Rachel Pacholke. “Sometimes she also comes out of nowhere when I think the ball is going to fall. Her hustle and hard work helps us stay in ball games.”

The record was previously held by 2006 graduate Whitney Bradley with 587 digs. This record stood for over 10 years.

“This is a very big accomplishment for myself,” Trevino said. “I never thought my hard work would pay off in this way.”

Trevino, who led the Saints in digs with 283 throughout the regular season, also was named to the Western New York Athletic Conference All-Conference team. She also tallied 45 serving aces and played in all 84 sets for the Saints.

Trevino plans on continuing her education to obtain her Bachelors in Education and continue to play volleyball. She hopes one day to become a teacher and coach younger athletes in volleyball.

As a senior at Burleson, Trevno garnered District 8-5A honorable mention accolades.
