BHS’ Farnell qualifies for regionals tournament

Spartans finish third, Elks place fifth

Burleson’s Pierson Farnell shot a two-day 156 to finish eighth at the District 9-5A boys golf championships and qualify for the regional tournament.

The two-day event took place last Wednesday and Thursday at Fort Worth’s Pecan Valley Golf Course. The regional tournament is slated for April 26-27 at Rockwall’s Golf and Athletic Club.

“Pierson did a great job on the second day playing and dealing with the nerves of being in the last group of the tournament,” Burleson coach Ted Tomchesson said. “He showed great maturity by not letting the bad holes carry over to the next. I think the team gained valuable, experience for next years tournaments.”

Centennial’s A team finish third after carding a combined 671. Burleson placed fifth with a 696 and Centennial’s B team shot a 721 to finish seventh. Granbury’s Purple team shot a combined 610 to win the district title and the Granbury Gold team was second with a 613.

Karsten Harrison, playing for Granbury’s Gold squad, won the district title after shooting a 147. The next two finishers played for Granbury’s Purple team. Dustin

Anderson finished second with a 148 and Jake Holbrook was third after carding a 151.

“We played really good,” Centennial coach Matt Dunn said. “Several players shot their lowest scores of the season. I’m looking forward to next year, with eight of 10 returning to the varsity.”

Kobe Salisbury paced Centennial’s A team with a two-day 158 to place ninth. He finished two strokes shy of qualifying for regionals. Cody Martucci shot a 168 to finish 17th. Tyler Everts finished 18th with a 170. Corbin Franco was 23rd (178) and Vic Torres placed 27th (179).

Burleson’s Cole Smith shot a 178 to place 23rd. Spencer Daniel carded an 181 to finish 29th. Patrick Dodge finished 30th, after shooting a 183. Chase Scott placed 31st with a 186 and Preston Kurmes was 35th (188).

Centennial’s B team efforts were led by Zayne Reeves who carded a 176 to finish 20th. Moriah Kunz finished 23rd after shooting a 178. Brayden Hirsch fired a 179 to place 27th. Conner Meek shot a 188 to place 35th and Brayden Pollard was 41st (194).
