Lady Elks, Lady Spartans open playoffs tonight

Burleson and Centennial’s softball teams are slated to open the playoffs tonight.

The Lady Elks (16-8), who finished third in District 9-5A, will take on Mansfield Lake Ridge in a best-of-three Class 5A Region II bi-district playoff series.

Game 1 will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lake Ridge (16-5). The second game of the series will be played at 6 p.m. Friday at Burleson. A deciding third game, if needed, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lake Ridge.

Last season, Midlothian swept Burleson from the playoffs in the first-round of the playoffs.

Centennial (15-10), which tied for first-place in 9-5A with Granbury, will be the second-seed representative from the district after losing to Granbury, 2-1, Friday in a seeding game.

The Lady Spartans will take on Waxahachie (18-8-1) in a best-of-three Class 5A Region II bi-district playoff series.

The opening game of the series will be tonight at 7 p.m. at Waxahachie. Game 2 is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at Centennial. A deciding third game, if needed, will take play 30 minutes after the second game.

Centennial defeated Mansfield Summit in the first-round last season then knocked off Dallas Spruce in the area-round. Mansfield Legacy knocked off the Lady Spartans in three games in the regional quarterfinals.
