Lady Spartans, Lady Elks get wins

Wins Tuesday night in District 9-5A girls soccer play by Burleson and Centennial setup a showdown Friday.

The Lady Spartans (8-1-1, 25 points), the second-place team in 9-5A, play at Burleson (4-3-3, 17 points), which is tied for third place with Cleburne.

Tuesday, the Lady Elks defeated Everman, 5-0, and Centennial beat Arlington Seguin, 3-0.

Gracie Spradley scored twice for Burleson whileSummer Mashburn, Chloe Blex and Hannah Werner each scored a goal.

“Our focus now is on Friday’s game and working on earning points,” Burleson coach Chris Leshinski said.

Centennial’s goals came from Chelsie Rodriguez, Megan Walker and Casie Watson.

“We got a little frustrated because we kept getting offside but finally adjusted when Chelsie scored the first goal,” Centennial coach Kara Cuellar said. “I think we played solid overall and I was very proud of how hard they played.”
