Teams ready for district meet

After getting rained out last weekend, Burleson and Centennial’s cross country squads prepped for Thursday’s District 9-5A championships competing at Friday’s Race for the Loot in Granbury.

Centennial scored 35 points to win the girls race and Burleson finished fifth with 111 points. White Settlement Brewer was second (82 points), Waco Midway placed third (108). The Elks finished second with 70 points. Centennial placed fourth with 109 points. Waco Midway won the title with 53 points and Duncanville was third (98 points).

Both teams are slated to run today at the 9-5A championships at Grand Prairie’s Lynn Creek Park.

The top three teams at district advance to the Class 5A Region II championships Oct. 29 at the same location.

Centennial’s Sarah Trammel won the title covering the course in a time of 19 minutes, 36.92 seconds. Abigail McCandless finished fifth in a time of 20:50.37. Serena Bersuch placed seventh in a time of 21:07.32. Emily Terrell was ninth in a time of 21:27.03. Karly Burson finished 13th in a time of 21:42.30. Savannah Becton placed 19th in a time of 22:02.45. Kayla Whitmire was 21st (22:07.02) and Jordan Lamond was 30th (22:28.57).

The Lady Elks were led by Jordan Rosser who finished fourth in a time of 20:39.66. Bridgette Montes placed 11th in a time of 21:33.88. Kaylie Hoerig was 25th in a time of 22:17.14. Meadow Renfro finished 27th in a time of 22:21.35. Mackenzie Clark placed 46th in a time of 23:40.96. Haley Vasquez was 50th (24:13.36) and Abby Boatright was 52nd (24:31.55).

Cesar Limones led the Elks efforts finishing second in a time of 16:32.74. Alex Devora placed eighth in a time of 17:51.10. Kenneth Longoria was 18th in the of 18:12.92. Chris Smith finished 20th in a time of 18:18.21. Larry Jones placed 22nd in a time of 18:19.95 and Elias Word was 23rd in a time of 18:24.04.

Also running for the Burleson were Logan Hamit (31st, 18:43.99), Brady Brunson (32nd, 18:46.50), Zane Rice (56th, 19:28.28) and Peter Nguyen (65th, 19:55.47).

The Spartans top runner was Trenton Kelly who placed seventh in a time of 17:44.96. Nick Newby finished 14th in a time of 18:04.65. Eli Davis was 25th in a time of 18:33.73. Amir Khan placed 30th in a time of 18:43.28. Trevor Pennington finished 34th in a time of 18:50.90. Jordan Pennington was 37th (18:57.58) and Darien Burley was 49th (19:18.78).
