Tennis squads move to 2-0 in 9-5A
Burleson’s tennis team got off to a 2-0 start in District 9-5A play with a 19-0 win over Joshua last Tuesday.
In boys singles play, Joe O’Brien, Connor Williams, Devin Richardson, Tanner Robertson, Kole Bacon Levi Porter all collected wins.
In boys doubles action, O’Brien and Richardson; Willams and Porter and Robertson and Bacon, won their matches.
Winning in girls singles play were Brinley Brown, Hali Dinwiddie, Alexis Baker, Deanann Zaragoza, Naomi Mitchell and Neely Huskisson. Taking girls doubles matches were Brown and Zaragoza; Dinwiddie and Baker; and Mitchell and Huskisson.
Brooks and Kirkpatrick combined for a mixed doubles win.
Burleson played at Everman Tuesday. No results were available. Burleson hosts Centennial on Tuesday afternoon.
Lady Spartans lead charge
Thanks to the play of the Lady Spartans, Centennial’s tennis team defeated Cleburne, 11-0, last Tuesday to improve to 2-0 in District 9-5A play.
The Lady Spartans swept all singles and doubles play to lead the squad to the win. The girls dropped games on the day.
In girls singles play, Jacey Westbrook, Jaelyn Tucker, Ryleigh Moore, Hannah Rudewick, Simone Chalabi, Olivia Taylor and Rachel White all picked up wins.
The Lady Spartans won all three doubles matches. Getting victories were Tucker and Moore; Rudewick and Chalabi and Taylor and While.
Trey Schatzmann was the lone Spartans to register a win singles play. Playing on the No. 2 line, Schatzmann defeated Brandon Harwell, 6-2, 6-4.
Schatzmann and Westbrook won in mixed doubles play.
Centennial hosted Arlington Seguin Tuesday. No result was available.
