Burleson football has big signing day

Burleson football coach Gary McElroy was all smiles last Wednesday as he watched six of his players sign letters of intent to play football in college.

McElroy was proud of his charges for their athletic and academic prowess.

“There is as much academic money as athletic money going to these kids,” McElroy said. “This senior classes GPA-wise is the best we have had since we got to Burleson. These guys really came out smelling like a rose because of the academic money they are getting to go along with football scholarship money. They really did well for themselves. They are the model students being able to maintain academics as well as athletics.”

Four Elks will signed with Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.

“I don’t know what brought them to us,” McElroy said. “They are moving up from NAIA to Division II so they were able to offer more and better scholarships. They have never recruited us before but this year they have made a hard push in Texas to get some Division II type kids.”
