Burleson sending three individuals for area meet

Competing in her first district track and field championships, Burleson freshman Janiya Nunsant made an impact at last week’s District 5-5A championships at Burleson ISD Stadium.

Nunsant qualified for the District 5A-6A Area Championships in two individual events and ran on a relay team that qualified. The top four finishers in each event advanced to the area meet that will take place Thursday in Burleson.

In the high jump, Nunsant cleared five-feet to finish second. Nunsant clocked a personal best time of 25.63 seconds in the 200 meters to place third. The Lady Elks 1,600 relay team of Nunsant, Madison Lewis, Hailey Sanchez and Elizabeth Robertson finished third in a time of 4:08.58.

For the Elks, Ace Garcia and Caleb Kirby qualified for the area meet. Garcia finished third in the 3,200 in a time of 10:21.51 and Kirby cleared 14-6 in the pole vault to finish third.
