Elks fall to Everman, 3-1, in season finale
Just as they did last season, Burleson’s baseball team lost its District 8-5A finale to Everman Friday night.
The Bulldogs defeated the Elks, 3-1, at Burleson.
The Elks finished district play with a record of 4-9 and an overall mark of 12-15.
Burleson’s Cody Wickham took the tough compete-game loss. Wickham allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings. He walked three and struck out 10.
Everman (1-13 in district) scored a run in the third after loading the bases with two out on a walk, a single and hit batter. Edward Montanez followed with a run-scoring single.
The Elks added a pair of runs in the fifth on a RBI sacrifice bunt and a run-scoring sacrifice fly.
After stranding two runners on base in the first and fourth innings, Burleson broke through in the sixth inning.
Davin White hit a leadoff double in the sixth and Reese Etter doubled home White. But the Elks next three batters couldn’t keep the rally going.
Everman’s Rogelio Vargas registered the complete-game win. He surrendered one run on five scattered hits while striking out three.
