Elks, Lady Elks get cross country season started
Friday morning, Burleson’s cross country program opened its season running in the Cowtown Challenge at The Buff in Haltom City.
The Elks, led by senior Elias Word and sophomore Ace Garcia, finished eighth with 244 points. Word placed 25th in a time of 18 minutes, 4.4 seconds and Garcia was 26th in a time of 18:04.75.
Plano West claimed the boys’ title with 72 points. Keller Central placed second (119 points) and Richardson Pierce was third (139).
Also, scoring points for the Elks were senior Chris Smith (46th, 18:31.76), senior Adrian Reyes (52nd, 18:39.65) and sophomore Yash Dalal (101st, 19:37.74). Others competing for Burleson were: junior Isaac Smith (138th, 20:26.62), sophomore Dylan McMullen (140th, 20:29.64), junior Xavien Garcia (144th, 20:38.16), freshman Xander Garcia (149th, 20:45.22) and junior Jacob Perez (151st, 20:55.06).
Like the Elks, the Lady Elks top two runners finished back-to-back. Freshman Lennon Porter finished 31st in a time of 22:40.82 and junior Briyanna Barajas placed 32nd in a time of 22:41.08. The Lady Elks scored 225 points to finish 11th.
Plano West finished first with 34 points. Midlothian was second (125 points) and The Colony was third (127).
Sophomore Ellie Kirkpatrick finished 52nd in a time of 23:29.84. Junior Emily Tebo placed 60th in a time of 23:50.23. Sophomore Maggie Prewitt was 82nd in a time of 25:08.33. Sophomore Courtney Watson finished 93rd in a time of 25:24.52. Sophomore Elissa Jackson placed 101st in a time of 25:45.24 and junior Keila Juarez was 109th in time of 26:47.11.
