Elks square off against top teams at Lewisville swim meet
James Miller had a big day for the Burleson’s swim team at Lewisville Invitational Dec. 10 at the Lewisville ISD Natatorium.
The 18-team meet hard just four Class 5A programs in the field. Burleson’s team fared well competing against 6A squads and swimming with six team members not available for the meet.
Miller set a school record in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of two minutes, 12.89 seconds. He placed third in the event while Payton Brown finished eighth in a time of 2:21.06.
In the 100 backstroke, Miller placed third in a time of 1:01.51.
Overall, Burleson placed seventh in the combined team standings with 269 points. Hebron was first with 792 points. The Lady Elks finished sixth with 145 points and Coppell took first place with 406 points. The Elks placed seventh with 124 points. Hebron scored 531 points to win the boys title.
“The team continues to improve as a whole as we continue the journey to District,” Burleson coach Paula Peckham said.
For the girls, Aaliyah Young won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:59.55. Amelia Flug finished in fourth in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:11.40.
In the girls 200 freestyle relay, the team of Flug, Abigail Brown, Tiffany Graham and Young placed fourth in a time of 1:56.72. The same team placed seventh in the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:12.64 and sixth in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 4:25.34.
The boys 200 medley relay team of Miller, Payton Brown, Sean Wolfe and Ethan Brown finished eighth in a time of 1:54.49.
