Elks win streak halted
Burleson’s boys basketball team headed into Mansfield Legacy Tuesday night on the heels of a three-game District 5-5A winning streak.
But things didn’t go well as the Elks started the second half of district play with 63-45 loss to the Broncos.
With the loss the Elks fell to 3-5 in district play and 7-14 overall.
Burleson plays its next two district games at home. Mansfield Timberview comes to Burleson Friday and Arlington Seguin plays at Burleson Tuesday night.
The Elks kept things close in the first half as they trailed 31-20 going into halftime. The Broncos outscored Burleson, 21-7, in the third quarter to build a 52-27 lead.
Sam Martin made eight-of-eight free throws Tuesday night on the way to a team-high 20 points. Sidney McFail finished with nine points. Just five Elks scored in the game.
Friday night, Sam Martin scored a game-high 20 points as the Elks won at Granbury, 57-50, for their third consecutive district victory.
“We played well as a team,” Burleson coach Joey Martin said.
The Elks registered 15 assists in the win and had four players notch double-figure scoring. Burleson also connected on 10 three-pointers.
“We faced a box-and-one in the first half that gave us easy shots and the kids did a good job and knocked down shots,” Joey Martin said.
