Farley, McGovern lead Lady Elks to victory
The bottom of the lineup came up big for Burleson’s softball team Tuesday night in an 8-2 District 9-5A home win over Cleburne.
No. 8 hitter Julie Farley went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a triple while nine-hole hitter Maddie McGovern belted a three-run home run.
The offense supported the pitching of starter Brailey Wasik and reliever Kyleigh Rich.

The win kept the Lady Elks (14-8, 9-3) within one-game of first place with two games to play. Burleson plays at Arlington Seguin Friday and hosts Crowley Tuesday on senior night.
Nursing a one-run lead the Lady Elks scored five runs in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Farley singled home a pair of runs and McGovern followed with the three-run blast to center field.
Cleburne scored twice in the fifth inning to close to within 6-2. The Lady Elks answered with a pair of runs with two-out thanks to a triple by Farley.
