Having fun is the key at Elks football camp
Following each session of Burleson’s football camp last week, Elks head coach Gary McElroy asked the gathered campers if they had fun that day.
Each time, the answer was the same: a rousing “yes.”
“Them having fun at camp is the number one thing for their age group,” McElroy said. “We want them to enjoy themselves and teach them something that they will remember. Hopefully they will come each year and we can keep building off of that.”
The camp was for incoming Kindergärtners through fifth-graders drew about 75 campers.
This year the camp was held on grass practice fields near the school since the turf at Burleson ISD Stadium is being replaced.
Playing on a grass field had its benefits thanks to Mother Nature. One day it rained during camp leaving the field a bit muddy, much to the pleasure of the campers.
“The kids got a little mud on them and just thought it was the neatest thing ever,” McElroy said. “I thought they had a great time and our coaches enjoyed getting to work with them. It was a good time had by all.”
