Lady Elks claim title again
For the third consecutive year, Burleson’s girls soccer team won the title at the Lady Elk Invitational.
The Lady Elks went 4-0 at the tournament, registering shutouts in each game with Julia Mashburn in the net.
“Overall it was a great tournament for the girls to get things started and clean up things we needed to work on,” Burleson coach Chris Leshinski said. “I am happy that the seniors won their final year as a high school soccer player, but we still need to improve if we want to achieve our goal this season of making playoffs.”
Thursday, Tournament MVP Madison Ezell scored twice in a 2-0 win over Fort Worth South Hills while Hannah Werner and Faith Strube found the net to beat South Grand Prairie 2-0. Saturday, Burleson downed Fort Worth Western Hills, 1-0, behind a goal from Ezell. Then Strube and Ezell scored in a 2-0 victory over Saginaw.
Strube and Adriana Zaragoza were named to the all-tournament team.
“We get a good test this weekend when we travel to Lufkin for the Lady Lobos Showcase,” Leshinski said.
The Lady Elks face Longview today, Lufkin on Friday and Hudson on Saturday.
