Tuesday night, Burleson found itself in a tussle with a feisty Crowley squad. In the first half of 9-5A play, the Lady Elks swept the Lady Eagles. It wasn’t that easy the second time around.
The first three sets were within a point when each team reached 20 points. Then in the fourth set, the Lady Elks were able to some distance between themselves and Crowley thanks to the play of Meredith Augsburger, Sarah Reid, Jailah Ivory, Hope Hodges, Breanna Imbarlina and Kyleigh Rich.
“I felt like we saw different Crowley team than we saw the first time out,” Newton said. “They were scrappy and kept us on our toes. We finally fought back in game three and played the way I thought we should have played in the second game.”
