Lady Elks fall at home
Crowley turned up the heat on Burleson from the opening tip Tuesday night and the Lady Elks failed to respond.
The end result was a rather easy 68-28 win by Crowley over the Burleson in the Lady Elks first District 9-5A home game.
By the time Burleson coach Curtis Enis had burned his second timeout with 4:58 left in the first quarter, the Lady Eagles (9-7, 2-0) held a commanding 12-2 lead.
Behind 10 first-quarter points from Avery Brittingham the Lady Eagles built a 22-9 lead heading into the second quarter. Brittingham led all scorers with 29 points.
Crowley’s scoring slowed down a bit in the second quarter and Burleson trailed 32-15 at halftime.
“I thought we came out very tenative in every facet of the game,” Enis said. “That led to turnovers and missed shots. We did not play any defense tonight and that was the was disappointing to me the most. Our offense and were not existent tonight from the whole team.”
Burleson (7-8, 0-2) didn’t fair much better in the second half as the Lady Eagles used a 21-4 third-quarter run to extend their lead to 53-19. In the third quarter, Crowley’s Taelour Pruitt scored 10 of her 17 points.
No Lady Elk was able to reach double-figure scoring Tuesday night. Caitlyn Kirkham led Burleson with seven points. Madison McCall finished with six points and Jailah Ivory added four points,
Burleson is on the road Friday night playing at Granbury. The Lady Elks return home Tuesday hosting Joshua in their final district game of the year. Burleson opens play Dec. 28 at the Pilot Point Tournament to close out non-district play.
