Lady Elks headed back to post-season
Despite a pair of loses in District 9-5A play, Burleson’s volleyball team is headed back to the playoffs after a one-year hiatus.
The Lady Elks will finish fourth in 9-5A following losses last Friday at Centennial, 25-23, 23-25, 25-14, 25-20, and a loss at district co-leader Granbury Tuesday night, 25-12, 25-7, 25-18.
Burleson finishes out the district play with a pair of home matches. The Lady Elks host 9-5A co-leader Cleburne Friday and host Joshua Tuesday night on senior night. The Lady Elks will honor seniors Meredith Augsburger, Hope Hodges, Baleigh Myers, Breanna Imbarlina and Kayla Perkins.
Lady Elks coach D’Anna Newton was pleased her teams play Friday at Centennial.
“We got a set on them and we played good,” Newton said. “We are battling injuries again. We are having to move people around and play different spots. We are trying to make it work. We were competitive on Friday night.”
Newton didn’t have the same warm feelings about the Lady Elks play Tuesday against the Lady Pirates.
“We didn’t play that well,” Newton said. “Granbury’s a hard place to go play and they have a really good team. They did a good job. We just have to work harder and play better. We didn’t come ready to play tonight.”
Burleson will open the playoffs against Waxahachie or Red Oak.
