Lady Elks season ends with loss to Lake Ridge
Mansfield Lake Ridge’s pitcher Chloe Jones held Burleson's bats in check most of the night Friday at Burleson fell to the Lady Eagles, 5-2, in Game 2 of the team’s playoff series.
The win gave Lake Ridge a sweep of the best-of-three Class 5A Region II bi-district playoff series.
The Lady Elks put together the beginnings of a rally when Audrey Schneidmiller singled with one out. With two out, Lauren Minor doubled in courtesy runner Logan Loggins. But Minor got pickoff off at second on the relay throw to end the game.
Lake Ridge took a 3-0 lead in the first inning when the Lady Eagles loaded the bases with two out and Mackenzie Denson cleared the sacked with a double to right field.
Burleson cut the lead to 3-1 in the second inning on an RBI-double by Brailey Wasik that scored a run. Schneidmiller opened the inning with a double. The Lady Elks couldn’t add another run.
The Lady Eagles chipped in insurance runs in the third inning on a Kate Tovar RBI-single and a run-scoring ground out by Maddie Munoz.
