Rich no hits Everman
Freshman Kylie Rich tossed a four-inning no-hitter Friday as Burleson closed out regular season play with a 17-0 District 8-5A win at Everman.
The Lady Elks (13-12, 9-5) are slated to open the post-season at 7 p.m. today with a one-game playoff at home against Fort Worth South Hills. Last season, Burleson swept the Lady Scorpions in a bi-district series.
“Kyleigh threw great and the whole team turned in a strong offensive performance,” Burleson coach Summer Owen said. “They came out and took care of business. It’s a great way to go into the playoffs.”
Rich needed just 42 pitches to finish off the Lady Bulldogs. The freshman struck out five and walked none. She hit one batter and another reached on an error.
Burleson started fast Friday, in a game that had been delayed since Tuesday because of inclement weather and a wet field, scoring three runs in the first.
Emily Wilson opened the inning with double and Emory Smith followed with a walk. With one out and runners at second and third after a double steal, Zoe Miranda singled in Wilson. Smith then scored on a double steal and Rich doubled home Miranda for a 3-0 lead.
In the third, Miranda and Lauren Isbelll singled with one out and Rich drove home Miranda with a single. The Lady Elks added two runs on an RBI-single by Maddie McGovern. Then Wilson doubled in two runs for an 8-0 lead.
Burleson scored nine runs in the fourth to put the game away. Natali Wheeler opened the inning with a solo home run. McGovern singled in a run and Julie Farley put the Lady Elks up 12-0 with a two-run single. Leading 14-0, Wheeler hit a run-scoring double and Miranda added a two-run double.
