They dream of playing Elk baseball
Burleson’s baseball camp was filled with myriad of different colored summer league uniforms but all the campers had the same dream - wearing the red and black uniform of a Burleson Elk.
The camp was for incoming kindergartners to incoming ninth-graders and ran Monday through Thursday at Elk Field. More than 80 kindergartners through fifth-graders participated and there were 40 plus campers in the sixth- through ninth-grade group.
“Man, it went good,” Burleson baseball coach Daniel Bruce said. “We had one of the best turnouts we ever had.”
The weather was a little hot but Bruce said the campers battled through it.
“I think the kids were so excited about it, it didn’t affect them too much,” he said. “They did a great job of handling the heat.”
Bruce was also pleased with the ability level of the players at the camp. That bodes well for the programs future.
“The talent level in both groups was good,” Bruce said. “They are all playing baseball during the summer. That’s how they will get better is to keep playing and keep playing. They were all wearing their summer league teams, so you know they are all playing baseball. That’s what we need, them playing all they can.”
