Local track team excels at regional meet
The city of Burleson Summer Track Team had a strong showing at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation’s Region 4 Track and Field Championships.
The regional meet was held July 12-13 at Kangaroo Stadium in Weatherford.
The squad qualified 12 individuals in 14 events for the state championships. The team also had one relay team qualify for state. The top five finishers in each event at regionals qualified for state.
The state meet starts today in Bryan and ends Sunday.
Medals were awarded to the top three finishers in an event. Those who finished in fourth through eighth place received ribbons.
In 8-and-under girls competetition, Madalynn Riggs qualified for state in three events. She finished third in the high jump after clearing 2-feet, 8 inches. Riggs was fifth in the long jump with an effort of 8-7 and fifth in the 400 meters in a time of 1:29.88.
In girls 12-and-under action, Allysondra Pipkin is headed to state in three events. She cleared 4-6 to place third in the high jump. Pipkin was fourth in the long jump with an effort of 13-6 and finished third in the 80 in a time of 15.56. Addyson Birch qualified for state in the long jump by finishing third with an effort of 13-10. Imani Dejeau also is headed to state in the long jump after finishing fourth with an effort of 13-6. Kenadie Martin placed sixth in the long jump with an effort of 13-4. In the 80, Birch finished eighth in a time of 17.34.
Tizah Meis competing in the girls 18-and-under division, qualified for state in the discus after placing third with a toss of 75-11.
In boys 8-and-under action, Bain Barton qualified for state in two events. Bain finished second in the high jump clearing 3-4 and was second in the long jump with an effort of 12-1. John Memmer qualified for state in the high jump after clearing 3-0 to place fourth. Porter Martin turned in an effort of 10-0.5 in the long jump to place fifth and qualify for state.
In the 10-and-under boys shot put competition, Paul Worlow placed eighth with an effort of 18-5.25 and Tommy Riggs finished eighth with an effort of 14-4.5.
In the boys 12-and-under division, Cole Confessore won the 80 hurdles in a time of 14.6 to qualify for state. Confessore is also headed to state in the long jump after finsihing third with an effort of 14-8.5. Kenton Lewis qualified for state in the high jump after clearing 4-6 to place second. The 1,600 relay team of Confessore, Lewis, Joaquin Lynch and Moss Meis is headed to state after taking first place in a time of 4:46.68.
Treas Wade qualified for state in two events in the boys 16-and-under division. Treas finished second in the 300 hurdles in a time of 48.58 and placed fourth in the 110 hurdles in a time of 19.45.
