Arlington Heights halts Lady Spartans’ season
The offense just wasn’t there for Centennial’s softball team in its best-of-three Class 5A Region I bi-district playoff series with Fort Worth Arlington Heights.
The lack of timely hitting spelled doomed for the Lady Spartans (12-18) as Arlington Heights swept the series at Cleburne.
“We usually have a break-out inning and put some hits together but we just couldn’t do that against Heights,” Centennial coach Shannon Sullivan said. “I’m proud of our fight in both games. This team had a challenging season but they never hung their heads, they kept scraping and clawing, game after game.”
Heights (28-6) took Game 1, 7-2, last Thursday and completed the sweep with a 7-3 victory Friday night.
“It’s a sad ending for all our players especially our seniors,” Sullivan said. “After the game I just tried to remind them there have been many more successes than failures in their careers and although this loss hurts, they made some great memories and the ones that will stand out after the dust settles will be the great ones.”
