Centennial's Brown places third in 400 meters at regionals
Centennial's Monica Brown capped off her track season with a third-place finish in the 400 meters over the weekend at the Class 5A Region I track and field championships Lubbock.
Brown nabbed a bronze medal in the event by clocking a time of 58.13 seconds. Kertisa Amos placed sixth in a time of 58.82.
The six Lady Spartans and a pair of Spartans participated in six events at the Lubbock ISD’s newly renovated PlainsCapital Park/Lowrey Field.
The girls finished 16th in the team standings with 14 points. El Paso Chapion took the girls title with 56 points. The Spartans scored one point to tie for 33rd. Fort Worth Arlington Heights won the title with 70 points.
Amos cleared five foot, two inches to finish fourth in the high jump. Sarah Trammel placed fifth in the 3,200 in a time of 11:45.20. In the 1,600, Trammel finished sixth in a time of 5:22.96 and Delaney Vance was 12th in a time of 5:44.54. Vance running in the 800 placed fifth in a time of 2:32.98.
The Lady Spartans' 1,600 relay team of Brown, Amos, Karly Burson and Shannon Gibbs finished ninth in the prelims in a time of 4:12.26.
In boys competition, Michael Gonzales finished sixth in the 3,200 in a time of 10:21.99 and Garrett Parkhill placed 10th in the shot put with an effort of 47-1.75.
