Cuellar excited about incoming freshmen class
Each summer, Centennial girls soccer coach Kara Cuellar gets a sneak peek into her freshman class at the Spartan soccer camp.
Last season, four freshmen made the varsity roster and, with the loss of six seniors to graduation, some of the incoming freshmen at the camp could join the varsity roster.
“We had a lot of incoming freshmen at the camp, which I like because I get to know them,” Cuellar said. “The girls like to come so I can see them before school starts. They like to get that exposure.”
There were 20 girls and 10 boys at the camp which was led by Cuellar and Spartans boys soccer coach Brian Boydstun.
Four of the incoming freshmen play on the same club team including Cooper Cowan, a freshman who started on defense for the varsity last season.
“The majority of the freshman girls play at a high-level of club soccer,” Cuellar said. “This is going to be another solid freshman group coming in. It’s going to be interesting where they fit.”
