Elks tennis run halted
The Burleson tennis team’s post-season run came to a quick end Monday afternoon.
The Elks lost to Mansfield Legacy, 10-6, in a Class 5A Region II bi-district team tennis playoff match.
Burleson, which went 7-0 to win the District 9-5A title, won three of seven doubles matches. The boys split their six singles matches, but the Lady Elks lost their first three singles matches.
In boys singles play, the Elks top three player,s Joe O’Brien, Conner Williams and Devin Richardson, dropped close matches. Picking up wins for the Elks were Kole Bacon, Tanner Robertson and Levi Porter.
The Lady Elks struggled in singles play as their top three players, Brinley Brown, Hali Dinwiddie and Alexis Baker, each lost. Naomi Baker, Deanna Zaragoza and Neely Huskisson didn’t play their matches.
In boys doubles play, the team of Bacon and Robertson registered a win while O’Brien, Richardson, Williams and Porter fell.
Burleson’s girls doubles team of Mitchell and Huskisson picked up a win. The teams of Brown and Zaragoza and Dinwiddie and Baker each lost.
Garrett Brooks and Katie Kirkpatrick won their mixed doubles match.
