First run on regional course
Centennial’s cross country teams traveled to Lubbock to run on the Class 5A Region I championship course at Mae Simmons Park on Saturday.
Competing in the Class 5A division of the Lubbock Invitational, the Lady Spartans finished fourth with 143 points and the Spartans placed sixth with 159 points.
In the girls division, Amarillo placed first with 53 points. El Paso Eastlake was second (89 points) and Canyon Randall was third (99). In the boys division, Randall took first place with 101 points. Amarillo was second (127 points) and El Paso Burgess was third (151 points).
Sophomore Harli Woolsey paced the Lady Spartans finishing fourth in a time of 19 minutes and 00.3 seconds. Senior Sarah Trammel, who was sick and didn’t race last week, placed sixth in a time of 19:16.2.
Junior Marina Grimaldo was 43rd in a time of 21:45.5. Junior Madylin Herrera placed 50th in a time of 22:01.9. Freshman Kate Moravec finished 51st in a time of 22:08 and senior Serena Bersuch was 85th in a time of 24:10.7.
For the first time this season, junior Nick Newby was the top Spartan runner. Newby finished eighth in a time of 16:31.6. Senior Trenton Kelly placed 30th in a time of 17:19. Freshman Luke Johnson was 32nd in a time of 17:22.7. Senior Ryan Valdez finished 45th in a time of 17:46.8. Junior Trevor Pennington placed 48th in a time of 17:51.5. Junior Ryan Bergami was 59th in a time of 18:05.3 and senior Derek Larabell was 64th in a time of 18:12.2.
