Friend, Kimberling to represent Centennial in all-star game
A pair of Centennial softball players will close out their junior season Wednesday night playing the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 6A-5A All-Star game.
Second baseman Sydney Friend and first baseman Haley Kimberling with represent coach Shannon Sullivan's program in the contest that will take place at 7 p.m. Wedmesday at the Workman Softball Complex in Arlington.
This will be the first time juniors have played in the all-star game. In the past, recently graduated seniors competed in the contest.
Friend was the District 8-5A Player of the Year and Kimberling earned first-team all-district honors.
The duo helped the Lady Spartans go 14-0 in 8-5A play and finish the season with a 29-5 record and make their deepest playoff run ever. Centennial reached the regional semifinals before losing to Canyon.
To get to that spot, the Lady Spartans downed Fort Worth Western Hills and Lake Dallas in one-game playoffs then swept arch-rival Burleson in the regional quarterfinals.
