Lady Spartans belt Cleburne
Centennial scored eight runs in the fourth inning Thursday night to defeat Cleburne, 13-5, in a district game at Centennial.
The Lady Spartans opened the fourth by loaded the bases on consecutive singles by Samantha Barker, Casey Hendrixson, and Kylee Gowin. Reagan Ellison followed with a two-run single to put Centennial up 6-2. Gracie Morton pushed the lead to 8-2 with a bases-clearing triple.
After a run-scoring base hit by Karter Hill, Laney Vaughn singled. Mac Harshbarger doubled in Hill and Vaughn and Harshbarger scored on an error by Cleburne’s center fielder for a 12-2 lead.
Trailing 1-0, Centennial answered with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ellison and Morton hit back-to-back single. Law then singled home Ellison and Vaughn belted a two-run home run to right field.
The Lady Spartans added a run in the second inning on a Barker double that scored Hill, who had singled to open the inning. In the fifth inning, Centennial went up 13-4 on an RBI-single by Hill.
Presley Green went the distance for the win scattering 10 hits while allowing five runs (four earned). She struck out one and walked one.
Ellison and Hill each had three hits in the win and two RBI’s. Morton and Law also drove in two runs.
Centennial (10-8, 8-2) run-ruled Arlington Seguin Wednesday night, 15-0.
The Lady Spartans host Burleson Friday and play at Granbury Tuesday.
