Lady Spartans bring home title
Running in its second to last race before the District 9-5A cross country championships, Centennial turned in a strong showing against some of the top squads in the area.
The Lady Spartans won the title Friday at the Ken Gaston Invitational running on the same course as the 9-5A championships. The district meet will take place Oct. 20. Centennial’s final run before district will be Friday at the Granbury Invitational.
The girls scored 77 points to take first. Mansfield Lake Ridge was second (111 points) and Hurst L.D. Bell placed third (149).
The Lady Spartans placed three runners in the top 14. Sarah Trammell finished third in a time of 19 minutes, six seconds. Abby McCandless placed eighth in a time of 20:04.40 and Serena Bersuch was 14th in a time of 20:29.40.
Emily Terrell placed 25th in a time of 20:58.10. Savannah Becton finished 42nd in a time of 21:32.50. Jordan Lamond was 45th (21:33.60) and Karly Burson was 58th (22:00.30).
The Spartans tallied 213 points to place fifth. College Station took first place with 78 points. Eastace finished second (194 points) and Arlington Lamar was third (195).
Trenton Kelly paced the boys finishing sixth in a time of 16:32.30. Trevor Pennington placed 37th in a time of 17:30.00 and Nick Newby finished 39th in a time of 17:32.30.
Eli Davis placed 67th in a time of 17:56.80 and Darien Burley was 68th in a time of 17:57.10. Also competing were Amir Khan (93rd, 18:12.10) and Jordan Pennington (95th, 18:13.40).
