Lady Spartans fall to second place

Things didn’t go well for Centennial in the Lady Spartans District 9-5A showdown at Granbury Tuesday night.

The Lady Spartans’, 25-23, 25-15, 25-17, 25-23, loss to the Lady Pirates dropped Centennial (17-20, 8-2) into second place behind Granbury.

“We never really got into a rhythm,” Centennial coach Jessica Ransom said. “We weren’t putting the ball away and they were. Our blocks struggled tonight so we weren’t able to get a lot of touches at the net and slow them down.”

The one bright spot Tuesday according to Ransom was the play of senior defensive specialist Carly Worthy.

“Carly Worthy was consistent passing and on defense,” Ransom said. “Other than that things didn’t go our way like they did on Friday.”

The Lady Spartans won their showdown with Cleburne Friday night rally for a 24-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 15-13.

Centennial and the Lady Yellow Jackets came into the game tied for first place with Granbury.

“We swung the momentum back on our side and were able to come out with the win,” Ransom said. “We took care of the ball and capitalized at the right time. That was fun.”

Senior middle blocker Allison Nolan had a big night delivering 17 kills while junior outside hitter Lauren Foster finished with 10 kills.

The Spartans also had a big night assist wise. Senior Maddie Skaggs finished with 27, junior Avery Tomme registered 22 kills and Worthy had 20 kills.
