Lady Spartans nab crown, Spartans finish second
Running on a familiar course, Centennial’s girls and boys cross country teams had strong showings Friday at the Buzz Run at Cleburne High School.
The Lady Spartans scored 48 points to win the title. Euless Trinity placed second (71 points), Cleburne finished third (131) and Burleson was eighth (207).
Four girls finished in the top 20 led by Sarah Trammel who finished second in at time of 20 minutes, 7.82 seconds. Abigail McCandless placed fourth in a time of 20:48.14. Serena Bersuch was 10th in a time of 21:39.61. Emily Terrell placed 12th in a time of 21:52.19 and Karly Burson was 20th in a time of 22:09.26.
Also running for the Lady Spartans were Jordan Lamond (30th, 22:38.67), Vantashia Bond (32nd, 22:43.90) and Savannah Becton (60th, 23:30.86).
In boys competition, Centennial finished second with 133 points. Burleson won the title with 99 points. Duncanville finished third with 134 points.
Trent Kelly paced the Spartans finishing second in a time of 16:47.34.
Trevor Pennington clocked a time of 18:27.13 to 10th overall. Eli Davis placed 30th in a time of 18:36.15. Amir Khan finished 36th in a time of 18:41.09 and Darien Burley was 42nd in a time of 18:51.51.
Jordan Pennington placed 43rd in a time of 18:53.26. Nick Newby was 51st in a time of 18:58.91 and Reed Vernon finished 62nd in a time of 19:09.80.
Centennial returns to action Saturday at the Lucas Lovejoy meet followed by the Ken Gaston Invitational next week before the District 9-5A championships.
